Guide to Huizhou Scenic Spots

Huizhou West Lake, located in the center of Huicheng District, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, is a national 5A-level tourist attraction and national scenic spot. Known as one of China’s three famous West Lakes, it features “Six Lakes, Nine Bridges and Eighteen Scenes” including Sizhou Pagoda, Su Causeway and Dongpo Garden. Su Dongpo, the great Northern Song writer, lived here and left numerous poems, endowing it with profound Lingnan cultural heritage. It is a popular urban ecological leisure destination in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Mount Luofu, located in Boluo County, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, is a national 5A scenic area. Known as “the First Mountain of Lingnan” and the 7th Taoist Grotto Heaven, it was where the Eastern Jin Taoist Ge Hong practiced alchemy and wrote classics. Featuring Chongxu Ancient Temple and 1296m Feiyun Peak, it is a “Natural Oxygen Bar” and TCM cultural destination in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Shuangyue Bay (Double Moon Bay) is located in Gangkou Town, Huidong County, Huizhou. Named for its two crescent-shaped bays, it is a top coastal resort in the Greater Bay Area. Featuring Daxingshan Viewing Platform and Pinghai Ancient City, it offers stunning sunrise/sunset views, fishing trips and beach camping experiences.

Xunliao Bay, a national 4A scenic area in Huidong County, is known as “China’s Maldives”. With 16km of coastline and 8 crescent bays, it features crystal-clear water and white sand beaches. Highlights include Mozishi Park and Delta Island, offering sailing, diving and other water sports.

Turtle Bay National Nature Reserve in Huidong County is the only national turtle reserve in mainland China. Every June-October, green sea turtles return here to lay eggs. The reserve features a turtle museum, nesting beaches and coastal boardwalks, making it perfect for marine science education.

Shuidong Street, located in Huicheng District, was built in the Northern Song Dynasty and is Huizhou’s oldest commercial street. Preserving many arcade buildings, it blends Lingnan, Hakka and marine cultures. Now a popular nightlife spot with restaurants, bars and shops, it offers a glimpse into Huizhou’s history.

Minmetals Hallstatt Town, a national 4A scenic area in Boluo County, is modeled after the Austrian Hallstatt village. Featuring European-style churches, squares and shops, it perfectly recreates the fairy-tale charm of the Alps. It is a popular wedding photography and Instagram-worthy destination.
